Position Description
This position requires the individual to generate engineering drawings, from conceptual drawings to final drawings, for manufacture of implants and instruments. The individual will work under the guidance of the department manager and engineering team, and is responsible for converting general product requirements and design concepts into engineering designs which will take into account manufacturability.
Position Responsibilities
Generates prototype and final engineering drawings for products which meet specific criteria provided by the project manager.
Works with prototyping vendors to realize prototypes of generated engineering designs.
Seeks continuing education opportunities so that present level of skills can be upgraded.
Works from notes, verbal instructions, sketches and drawings, or engineering specifications; consolidates the information to be used to prepare working plans, layouts and detailed drawings.
Reviews the design and helps resolve the details not completely defined. Determines the best combination of all the preliminary information and contributing data to develop the final design.
Develops specifications, designs or drawings using engineering principals, established company standards, procedures, and instructions.
Provides the required level of documentation for custom or standard projects. Specific tasks include making drawings and parts lists using the CAD system and other computer tools, as required.
Reviews engineering drawings and supporting documents for adherence to company or industry design standards.
Verifies completed work; checks dimensions, materials to be used, processing information, etc.
Coordinates with other internal departments (and external vendors) affected by design development.
Assures that any changes are documented and prepared in accordance with engineering change procedures and in a timely manner.
Follows company procedures, work instructions and guidelines in the design, layout, and documentation of company custom and standard products, i.e. procedure, classification coding and retrieval system, CAD drafting and archival guidelines, etc.
Basic Qualifications
Technical degree in Engineering Technology, or equivalent, plus a minimum of 3 years experience in the field of engineering design.
Understanding of basic metal manufacturing concepts.
