Position Description

The Diabetes division of Medtronic is looking for creative and innovative minds with a solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles to develop our next generations of drug delivery devices. Devices that fit users’ life style through waterproof designs with a modern look-and-feel, sophisticated sensor systems, and precise delivery mechanisms that are durable enough to withstand daily abuses hand held devices experience.

As a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer for drug delivery devices, you will be using the principles of Mechanical Engineering such as mechatronics, mechanics of materials, and kinematics to develop electromechanical systems and design for state of the art medical devices.

Position Responsibilities


• Apply Mechanical and Electromechanical Engineering principles to develop drug delivery systems and products
• Interpret requirements/needs, conceptualize, design, specify, simulate, and verify mechanical designs
• Design control algorithms for motions and automate various functions in devices
• Apply tools and methods such as DOE, statistics, design for reliability and manufacturability to design and product development processes
• Generate engineering reports, presentations and maintain formal documentation following appropriate protocols
• Apply, statics, kinetics and kinematics principals to characterize and design systems and mechanisms
• Conduct and participate in design reviews
• Develop work breakdown structure and project schedules and report progress to project and functional managers
• Develop test protocols and design verification plans
• Support validation activities (IQ, OQ and PQ) with internal and external members.
• Interface with Industrial Design, Human Factors, Electronics and other functional teams to facilitate system level product development

Basic Qualifications


• Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering from an accredited college or university
• 5+ years of professional experience in designing electromechanical systems
• Complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field of Mechanical Engineering plus a general knowledge of electronics and electrical engineering
• Proficient with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software
• Experience in mechatronics, motion control and algorithm development
• Experience designing with motors and sensors such pressure transducers and position sensors.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications


• Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis is Mechatronics
• Experience in mechatronics, motion control and algorithm development
• Experience designing with motors and sensors such pressure transducers and position sensors

• Advanced knowledge of Tolerance Analysis techniques
Knowledge of Engineering Statistics
