POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The controller APS Sub-Region will report into the CEMA Controller and will provide direct leadership to the APS Sub-Region to create and maintain a strong, consistent control environment with accurate and complete reporting based on USGAAP and local GAAP. This position will provide guidance and strategic insights and demonstrate advanced in-depth knowledge in the accounting and finance activities associated with complex technical accounting matters.  This position will demonstrate agility and strong communications skills while partnering across the Medtronic Organization, including CEMA Region, regional teams, shared service center teams, center of excellence teams, and BPO-partners.  The controller APS is a member of the CEMA Controller team and will report dotted line into the APS Finance Lead.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate a broad and in-depth understanding of Accounting and Finance processes and policies for USGAAP and local GAAP. Provide oversight and direction to the local Finance organization for all accounting and reporting matters, including the following to ensure compliance with accounting principles and MDT processes, legal and ethical standards:
  • Primary in-country finance contact person for accounting and control topics (eg. Revenue recognition)
  • Accountable for financial accuracy and completeness of the regional Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss accounts (US-GAAP and local GAAP) for all assigned legal entities in APS
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a strong and consistent control environment
  • Responsible for local risk management
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders on continuous process improvements
  • Be the Medtronic finance representative for all local authorities/agencies, including external auditors, banks, tax authorities, tax and financial advisors, related to accounting and control activities (applicable to selected Sub-Regions).
  • Partner with the country finance, business, financial analysts, and enabling functions in a broad range of business issues, education of Medtronic financial policies/processes, and as needed provide guidance in the decision-making process.
  • Be able to lead local projects and collaborate in CEMA and EMEA wide projects
  • Collaborate on EMEA wide value-stream initiatives
  • Operate with the highest of ethical standards
  • Ability to operate and influence within a complex organization.
  • Build and develop a high performing controlling team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Fluent in English, both spoken and written and preferably one or two additional languages

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED: 

Preferrable Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (BA minimum)

Chartered Accountant Professional Qualification

 

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

8+ years of experience in accounting or finance

Experience in Audit with one of big 4 would be an asset

 

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Must have solid proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint

Comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), APS regulations

Continuous improvement mindset

Strong influence management skills, inspire others to excel, communicate with impact and drive execution
