Preference is for position to be based onsite in Northridge, CA, but will consider remote option in the US.

In partnership with the Controller, Diabetes, you will provide leadership and direction to the broad-based financial affairs of the Diabetes Group (DIB)  and establish and maintain a strong system of internal control within DIB.  You will have the opportunity to develop and implement processes and internal controls throughout the Diabetes organization that will ensure integrity of our financial statements. You will also serve as a resource for Technical accounting matters and assist the business in proper application to business transactions.

This position will provide high visibility across the Diabetes organization as you help direct all aspects of financial accounting, controls,  processes, and financial reporting to meet business objectives.  You will play a key role in creating  efficiencies and leading process improvement initiatives.

A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
• Provide oversight and direction to the DIB Finance organization for all accounting and reporting matters, including/especially, the following:
• Optimize Internal Controls designs and adherence
• Revenue Recognition matters
• Assessment of account balances, with a focus on Warranty, Bad Debt, Right of Return and Obsolescence and other accrual accounts
• Restructuring activities
• Business Development matters
• Intangible asset accounting including impairment analysis
• Balance Sheet Reconciliations quality and completion
• Adherence to Medtronic financial policies and procedures and serve as the liaison with Corporate Accounting on any exception requests
• Build strong partnerships while sharing best practices with the Accounting and Control and Close to Report processes from around Medtronic including the other  Medtronic Groups and Regions.
• Act as key DIB liaison with the Medtronic Controller’s office and assist DIB in all interactions with external auditors, as well as with the Medtronic Internal Audit team.
• Provide direction to the monthly, quarterly and fiscal year end DIB closing processes.
• Takes the initiative to identify a broad range of business issues which includes everything from internal controls to providing leadership in the decision-making process.
• Integrates the Finance function with business activities and actively participates in business matters
• Provide appropriate interpretations and analysis of actual financial performance versus plan or forecast.
• Analyze financial statements (P&L/Balance Sheet) and reconcile accounts for accuracy and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Develop and implement performance measures that focus on key business drivers (financial and non-financial) to support long term performance and strategic objectives.
Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives
• Implement and monitor financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP, Corporate and Diabetes policies and procedures.
• Assist in the development and implementation and monitoring of financial and operational systems, processes, and procedures affecting the Diabetes Group.
• Ensure business partnering through participation in cross-functional teams internally and with global organization, corporate and others within Medtronic.
• Contribute financial analysis expertise to senior management, staff and cross-functional teams and committees.
• Educate employees on the use of financial tools that will enhance productivity.
Leadership
• Provide ongoing direction and guide to ensure efficient completion of G&Os for Medtronic and Diabetes Controllership Groups
• Identify and enable employee learning & development opportunities, particularly in regards to Financial policies and procedures, for both Finance and the broader Diabetes organization
• Drive employee engagement, inclusion and innovation; maintain positive motivation and recognition of staff

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years of work experience in Finance/and or Accounting (5+ years with an Advanced Degree) 

Nice to Have
• Certified Public Accountant, public accounting and/or internal audit experience
• Finance and accounting knowledge: Demonstrates a broad and in-depth understanding of Accounting and Finance. Understands, interprets, and applies accounting principles and processes to ensure compliance with legal, business accounting, and ethical standards.
• Internal controls: Understands and effectively applies internal control principles and objectives, including Medtronic's Key Corporate Policies.
• Project management/ change management and problem-solving skills, high degree of initiative
• 5+ years of progressive leadership experience
• Business partnering: Identifies a broad range of business issues and provides leadership in the decision-making process, actively participates in managing the business and Finance objectives.
• Financial analysis: Organizes and structures business information to identify specific risks and opportunities. Applies quantitative and qualitative factors, skills and business experience, to arrive at meaningful conclusions and recommendations. Develops innovative alternatives and solutions when issues arise.
• Planning & reporting: Accurately monitors and projects the organization's financial performance. Provides performance measures and interprets results in view of plans and objectives.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and influence management skills.
• Professional effectiveness/ Leadership competencies: Ability to operate within a complex organization. Strong influence management skills, demonstrate superior judgment, shape business results, inspire others to excel, communicate with impact, demand ethical behavior, and drive execution
