A Day in the Life

We offer you a position where

·         What is the position about ? Associate DBA is responsible for supporting and maintaining the Oracle databases across different environments and mentoring DBAs.

·         In what team would this position exist ? DBA Team composed of Oracle, SQL Server and DB2 teams.

·         What does the team do ? Database Support, Maintenance and Projects.

·         What are the day to day actions performed by the person playing this role ? Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Monitoring and Delivering Projects.

·         Who are the teams/people the candidate will collaborate with to deliver his deliverables ? OS, Storage, Network and Applications Team.

·         Who are the stakeholders for this position ? Application team.

Skills Required


  • Solve routine problems of limited scope and complexity following established policies and procedures.
  • Create schemas, using DDL, from physical data models.
  • Analyze data access, integration, and storage requirements for databases.
  • Provide technical guidance to database application development teams.
  • Assist in the troubleshooting and tuning of database environment.
  • Consult on database program design and review PL/SQL created by application developers.
  • Provide technical guidance to database application development teams and assist with problem resolution.
  • Ensure that Medtronic's systems and the information on them are protected in accordance with Medtronic's Information Protection Policies and Standards, as well as best Information Protection practices.

·         Experience with various Oracle products including RDBMS, SQL*Plus and PL/SQL, Toad, SQL Developer and Oracle Enterprise Manager.

·         Ability to understand customer requirements

·         Ability to follow standard procedures and practices relating to databases and database management

·         Analytical problem solving skills

·         Participate in 24x7 production support.


Preferred (Optional) Skills

  • Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards related to the Oracle RDBMS
  • Full knowledge of industry practices in the areas of database design and support
  • Knowledge with n-tier application and infrastructure architecture including storage area networks, virtual computing and backup management systems.
  • Data Modeling, relational modeling and physical database design
  • Technical writing skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Time management skills
  • Communication skills consistent with constant customer contact and ability to understand customer requirements
  • Ability to relate database concepts to technical and non-technical peers and supervisors

  • Experience with implementation and support of database name resolution solutions
  • Competent in O/S scripting and how the database interacts with O/S
  • Ability to develop standard procedures and practices relating to databases and database management
  • Ability to coordinate multiple resources to take medium to large projects to successful completion
  • Analytical problem solving skills
