Associate Materials Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
• The Associate Materials Engineer responsibilities include but are not limited to support various manufacturing sites for Medtronic devices.  This includes working with Seniors Engineers and participating in cost savings, redesigns, manufacturing process improvements, tooling replacement projects and resolving production issues related to metal and/or plastic components.  
• The Associate Materials Engineer will not only need to follow but to help develop new company’s best practices and standard procedures
• The Associate Materials Engineer must be able to communicate technically with various suppliers for Medtronic to support troubleshooting, supplier development programs and tooling replacement programs to ensure quality components will continually be received timely at the manufacturing sites.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manufacturing and Project Engineering team member for activities in accordance with standard operating procedures
• Key participant in DFMEA, PFMEA, and CTQ processes assuring specifications are well defined and documented.
• Assure production requirements are achieved for component and tooling specifications, supplier selection, and qualification.
• Knowledgeable of technology advances associated with tooling and process development.
• Communicate  and coordinate activities with multiple functional groups both within and outside of operations
• 25% travel to manufacturing sites and supplier visits required. (International and domestic).


A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
  • Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
  • May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.

Nice to Have 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Dynamic, positive attitude
• Knowledgeable of production processes related to components plastics and/or metals
• Strong project management skills
• Knowledge in plastic components manufacturing process (I.e. injection molding, extrusion)
• Knowledge in metals components manufacturing process (I.e. stamping, deep draw, etc.) 
• Exposure to plastic and/or metal components manufacturing processes.
• Working Knowledge of Six Sigma a plus
• Working knowledge of GD&T a plus
• Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, and Risk Tools a plus
• Working knowledge of DFA/ DFM principles a plus
• Strong computer skills


EDUCATION:
• BS Engineering or Equivalent


EXPERIENCE Preferred:
• 1 to 2  yrs. Applicable Experience
