Associate AME Materials Engineer – Danvers, Ma.


Medtronic’s Coronary and Structural Heart (CSH) business – Danvers, Ma location, is looking for a Associate AME Materials Engineer that will provide Extrusion, Braiding and Injection Molding support for Danvers Shared Technology Center group in a flexible environment. A Day in the Life

This position will have an emphasis in technical support in extrusion, braiding, injection molding prototyping, validation and production activities. You will work with various engineers and on your own on projects and tasks such as:

  • Communicating progress toward project objectives to engineers, project team members, and project manager  
  • Focus on the technology and processes of medical extrusion including free extrusion, composite multi-layer extrusion, molding and other designs that provide performance value to our customers.
  • Provide extrusion engineering support in product transfers from R&D to Manufacturing.
  • Provide engineering support in product line transfers from outside facilities to Danvers.
  • Perform dimension and physical property testing and data analysis under the direction of engineers (i.e. Tensile, Stiffness, Tensile, Torque, ID, OD, Wall Thickness).
  • Work with various engineers with various extrusion, braiding and Injection molding projects and tasks
  • Provide input regarding test, dimensional and visual observations
  • Request, complete and scan all EBR’s
  • Support and maintain material storage area
  • Order materials required by project
  • Ship materials to customers and vendors
  • Maintain good lab documentation practices
  • Be responsible for lab maintenance to comply with environmental health and safety requirements (EHS).
  • Ensure Danvers Shared Technology Center strategic objectives are met. Ensures Quality, Service, Cost and Technology expectations are realized for our customers

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
  • Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
  • May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.

Nice to Have

·       Knowledge of polymer or plastics extrusion (e.g. catheter, wire and cable, pipe, free tube extrusion, fiber etc)
·       Knowledge of braiding (Steeger, Wardwell)
·       Knowledge on Injection Molding
·       Good electrical/ mechanical problem solving skills
·       Ability to read, and redline engineering documentation (eg., execute IQs, EBRs, equipment documentation)
·       Experimental techniques: Maintaining a Lab Notebook, Statistics knowledge
·       Experience with GMP requirements and medical/ pharmaceutical/ regulated (defense/aerospace/ automotive) industry requirements
·       Good verbal and written communication skills
·       Good mechanical/ electrical problem solving skills
·       Clear understanding of EHS requirements.
·       Ability to work well with others and on teams
