This role is a key functional individual responsible for the management, identification, implementation and alignment of global sourcing strategies and global supplier network capabilities for Metal fabrications to achieve business objectives.  Responsible for the management of approximately $600M of materials across Minimally Invasive Therapies Group’s (MITG) manufacturing facilities and metal fabrication suppliers. Create a vision, provide leadership and develop the commodity team to foster a cohesive, highly skilled, and effective group that delivers substantial value to the MITG organization.  Ensure development and implementation of effective global cross divisional category strategies that are aligned with Business Unit objectives for cost, quality, risk mitigation, performance and leverage opportunities across divisions, functions and geographies. Identifies metrics, tools, and processes to optimize sourcing, supplier activities, efficiencies, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to prioritize and drive execution and implementation.  

 

A Day in the Life

 

•             Global Responsibility for sourcing of fabricated metal components, including knowledge of feedstocks and supply markets. 

•             Responsible to lead business process improvements achieving functional excellence. 

•             Key responsibilities include driving strategic global category sourcing strategies, implementing and maintaining risk analysis and mitigating action to protect the revenue stream. 

•             Designs and implements strategies to rationalize the global supplier base and maximize the value of spend. 

•             Engages with NPD Sourcing, Engineering and R&D to ensure external technology pipeline meet business requirements.

•             Partners with quality to drive continuous improvement.   

•             Responsibilities include creation and executing strategic direction acting as a project manager for programs such as Supplier Performance Management. 

•             Drives industry best practices and provides leadership to implement continuous improvement within the global supply base. 

•             Aligns organization with global business unit key initiatives in order to support resources, enable success and drive value enhancement. 

•             Implements programs to drive total cost of acquisition improvement activities for margin enhancement and improved service levels.  

•             Executes Strategic Supplier Business Reviews (SBR’s) process focused on improving supplier performance and meeting business unit requirements. 

•             Managing consistent supplier Selection and de-Selection process.

•             Implements Global Sourcing strategy including emerging country sourcing.

•             Managing ongoing Supplier Performance Management process. 

•             Creates/implements major material price movement strategy methodology including hedging, forward buying and cost protection. 

•             Creates/establishes external benchmark analysis including gap analysis and required actions to achieve functional competitive advantage. 

•             Negotiates Supplier contracts, develops supplier qualification and supplier phase in and phase out process 

•             Drives specific supplier performance improvement plans in areas that impedes our ability to meet our customers’ requirements. 

 •            Provides project management and sourcing expertise to cross-functional, cross-divisional commodity teams.

•             Facilitates these teams in the development and execution of long-term strategies that will optimize Medtronic's position in terms of quality, cycle/response time, technology, risk, and total cost.

•             Mitigates risk, leverages technology and purchase power, improves processes and systems, and reduces overall cost of ownership and acquisition.

•             Negotiates, establishes and monitors supplier agreements.


Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required and 10+ years of experience in purchasing, sourcing or supply chain management in manufacturing operations, engineering or other relevant area with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with 8+ years of experience in purchasing, sourcing or supply chain management in manufacturing operations, engineering or other relevant area with 7+ years of managerial experience

•           Five years of leadership experience managing a team

•           Experience with lean manufacturing, project management and/or six-sigma methodologies

 

Nice to Have

Experience with lean manufacturing, project management and/or six-sigma methodologies

Strongly prefer 15 years of experience in purchasing, sourcing or supply chain

Prefer MBA

Lean Manufacturing, Project Management and Six-Sigma Methodologies. Certification from the Institute of Supply Management (C.P.M., C.P.I.M, C.I.R.M., C.Q.E.), eSourcing platform (ARIBA)

Excellent leadership, organization, communication and negotiation skills.

 

Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative/integrative style of working to accomplish objective. 

Proven track record of building credible, reliable, customer focused sources of supply across multiple regions and multiple business units.

Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving significant productivity improvement (Quality, Service Levels, Delivery and Cost) year on year.

Demonstrated success in change management and in building high performance cross functional global work teams. 

Possesses a decisive goal oriented and priority focused approach. 

Views team work and cross functional partnership as a primary means to achieve objectives. 

Demonstrates strong business acumen and a bias for action. 

Good communicator both written and oral. 

Possesses strong process orientation striving for continuous improvement. 

Demonstrated strategic sourcing skills in a multi-business, multi-location global environment. 

Has medical device technical knowledge and ability to comprehend complex items related to customer, category and equipment specifications, contract terms and conditions, statements of work, engineering drawings and material specifications. 

Must have technical knowledge related to performance and manufacturing processes related to fabricated metals, such as stamping, CNC machining, Metal Injection Molding, wireforms, and assemblies. 

Must have sufficient analytical skills to perform highly complex total cost of ownership analysis. 

Be willing to travel up to 25% – extensive at times. 

Must maintain high ethical standards to support a professional business code of conduct.
