A Day in the Life
 

Market Development is a central element of MITG’s growth initiatives and the MITG strategic plan. The Market Development COE Director is a driver for Market Development across MITG.  The COE Director will support the COE Leader and internal partners through direct and collaborative relationships and will help execute relative to the MITG market development opportunities and priorities.  The Market Development COE Leader will be someone who:

  • is a naturally quantitative, analytical person who can synthesize complex data and derive new strategic insights
  • can create effective ways to summarize and communicate those insights in ways that are concise, compelling, highly defensible, and actionable
  • is equally comfortable working with detailed analysis and high-level strategy
  • is very comfortable working with senior leaders

This role will work closely with all MITG Business Units (Surgical Innovations, Respiratory, Gastrointestinal & Informatics, and Renal Care Solutions) and key transversal support functions (such as Medical Affairs, Marketing, Sales & Commercial Excellence, Strategy & Business Development,  R&D and Communications) to drive MITG’s transformation towards comprehensive solutions in order to achieve the standard of care in our disease and condition focus areas.

 

The individual reports to the COE VP Market Development for MITG.

 

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

 
  • Serves as a leader in the Market Development organization (Group Center of Excellence), supporting best practice market development within MITG with the purpose of driving sustainable growth and patient benefit globally
  • Participates MITG Market Development Council to facilitate initial and ongoing alignment of prioritization and resourcing of Market Development activities
  • Strategy
    1. Facilitates development. use of prioritization framework
    2. Use of Enrich format and standardize approach for assumptions
    3. Provides global line of site to resources required for success
  • Execution
    1. Develops with COE Lead insights on leverage MITG and MDT MD knowledge
    2. Develops with COE Lead aggregated global view of barriers to aid in identifying synergies
    3. Links use of PAA tools and templates to operationalize market development
    4. Develops and provides guidance with COE lead to best practices, playbooks by barrier
    5. Establish and manage project timeline and milestones
    6. Synthesis of gathered data into meaningful analysis
    7. Integration of all business unit information
    8. Manage MD Database in cooperation with CMA/Enrich database leaders
    9. Identification and communication of key insights derived from the analyses
    10. Crisp and well considered conclusions and recommendations
  • Leading and Lagging Indicators (LLIs)
    1. Develops with COE Lead establishment of standardized indicators by barrier
    2. Facilitate Roll up to COE for global priorities
  • Talent and Training
    1. Leads with COE Lead curriculum development for capability building in Bus, Regions, and Functions
  • Provide strategic planning support to MITG senior leadership and Bus, Regions, and Functions including maintenance of MD related strategic planning templates and the MD Framework/dashboard
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities, as required.

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience
Nice to Have
 
  • 7-10+ years combined experience in two or more of the following functions within the Healthcare industry (Med Device strongly preferred): Market Development, Strategic Marketing, Global Product or Upstream Marketing, Strategy & Portfolio Management, optional Medical Affairs, Health Economic, Policy, and Reimbursement.
  • Highly motivated to advance organizational expertise in market development
    • Process, methods, tools
    • Best practices
  • Very high critical thinking skills and synthesis skills (can create structure, form, systems)
  • Strong quantitative skills – can translate data, info, and ideas into useful analysis & insight
  • Cross functional influence, ability to lead with and without authority, possess the knowledge, skills, ability and credibility to system engineer a large and critical project with multiple stakeholders and matrixed participants
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clarity and appropriate level of commitment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to understand and communicate technical information.
  • State of the Art, Expert Knowledge of modern market development practices, procedures and techniques with a demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to drive achievement of business goals.
  • Strong orchestration and high-level influencing skills to set strategic direction and drive business transformation towards One MITG.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, effective engagement skills across the organization (respecting the importance of the matrixed organization within Medtronic)
  • Proven abilty to achieve results through influence and leadership (especially running cross-functional teams/projects).
  • Strong prioritization skills, able to coordinate multiple large scale projects and handling changing priorities with ease.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to travel 30 % of time.
