A Day in the Life:


Support Medtronic Danvers R&D/AME Extrusion/Molding group by developing and validating extrusion/molding processes to produce tubing, shafts and or molded components. Work with minimal supervision to manufacturing of extruded tubing, shafts and molded components. Responsible for operating, assembling and disassembling extruders and molding equipment. Support R&D/AME engineers in process and tooling development, data acquisition and analysis. Perform various technician duties as directed by the supervisor. Display a “Passion to win” and solid “Work Ethic” in the support of Danvers Extrusion/Molding Technology Center of Excellence.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Support R&D/AME in developing extrusion and molding processes.
  • Extrude and troubleshoot extrusion processes (Single and multi-lumen tubing, multi-layer shafts)
  • May be asked to support and troubleshoot small scale molding equipment and processes.
  • Provide R&D/AME support in the extrusion development, validation and commercialization for new product introductions.
  • Identify/communicate process development/issues and provide status updates to Engineers/Supervisor/Peers
  • Provide R&D/AME support in IQ, PC, OQ and PQ activities in accordance with Corporate, Divisional and Site Process Validation procedures and policies.
  • Lead, coordinate and perform experiments, monitor experiments, collect data, maintain laboratory notebook, report data and organize/archive data.
  • Track and maintain R&D/AME Development Requests, may communicate with customer on requirements and status. Create, review paperwork and labels for extrusion runs./ Document and record extrusion process
  • Insure compliance to Corporate, Divisional and Site Equipment Design/Development and Control procedures and policies.
  • Conduct product and process testing to prescribed Test Plans and Protocols.
  • Lead or coordinate product builds for development and testing.
  • Assist with the generation and management of project documentation according to prescribed policies and guidelines.
  • Develop manufacturing specs in support of new product introduction.
  • Train production operators in new extrusion processes.
  • Contact outside vendors for purchasing of materials, components, fixturing, services, etc.
  • Using influence management skills interface with engineering, materials control, planning, finance, document services, marketing and manufacturing in achieving common project goals.
  • Prioritize and balance workload of multiple project assignments based on business and functional objectives.

Must Have – Minimum Qualifications 

Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience and may require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experience.

Nice to Have:
  • 5+ Years technical background/experience
  • Medical device manufacturing experience
  • Extrusion, Molding and Polymer processing background
  • PC skills, word processing, spreadsheets
  • Electrical and electronic controls experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Legible handwriting
  • Familiarity with manufacturing safety and ergonomics
  • Able to operate independently with minimal supervision
