Finance Director - RTG R&D

• Lead all Finance activities and support for RTG Implantables R & D, PMO, and Legacy Neuro Clinical and Regulatory (>$200 Million in total spend).

• Lead talent management and development activities for a staff of 4 people.  Actively promote environment of engagement and inclusion.

• Provide strong business partnering and financial leadership to the Vice President and Directors in these organizations.

• Understand major business issues facing the organizations and provide financial recommendations.

• Prepare and present reporting and analysis of monthly spending to the Functions and BU business partners including the VP of Finance for Pain, Pelvic Health and R&D. 

• Collaborate regularly with the Pain, Pelvic Health and R&D BU Finance VP and Directors on financial topics and P&L forecasting.  

• Provide business partnering and financial leadership to the broader R&D organization to facilitate short and long term resource allocation across RTG Implantables effectively balancing the portfolio across the Pain, Pelvic Health and DBS portfolio.  

• Provide leadership and active participation in the AOP and monthly/quarterly forecasting process for the functional business partners and BU Therapy Directors/Finance support the businesses of Pain, Pelvic Heath and DBS

• Ensure project accounting/reporting capabilities to support financial planning, forecasting, and reporting for dynamic product development environment.

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, as well as Medtronic sponsored worldwide financial policies and procedures.

Take the initiative to identify a broad range of business issues and provide leadership in the decision-making process. Integrate the finance function with business activities to provide value to the customer. Actively participate in managing the business and in establishing its strategic direction. 

Finance and Accounting Knowledge:

Demonstrate a broad and in-depth understanding of accounting and finance. Understand, interpret, and apply accounting principles and processes to ensure compliance with legal, business accounting, and ethical standards. 

Financial Analysis:

Organize and structure business information to identify specific risks and opportunities. Apply quantitative and qualitative factors, skills and business experience to arrive at meaningful conclusions and recommendations. Develop innovative alternatives and solutions when issues arise. 

Internal Controls:

Understand and effectively applies internal control principles and objectives, including Medtronic’s Key Corporate Policies. 

Planning and Reporting:

Accurately monitor and project an organization’s financial performance. Provide performance measures and interpret results in view of plans and objectives. 

Technology Knowledge and Application:

Identify the R&D finance information needs of the business and lead the development and implementation of related-information systems strategies.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have

• Strong influence management skills
• Experience leading in a complex organization. 
• Project Accounting experience
• Knowledge of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Resource and budget management experience.
• Experience with SAP, Spend (Hyperion) and GFS (Hyperion)  
• MBA or CPA
• Good judgment and problem solving skills
• Proven business partnering skills
• Demonstrated competence to take ownership of projects and ability to work with various levels of management
