Imaging Technical Lead – Surgical Robotics

You will work with the Medtronic surgical robotics team and other relevant teams to create future capabilities to augment an already existing imaging system, from inception, to R&D, and commercial launch.

A Day in the Life
As the Imaging Tech Lead, you will be a R&D leader of innovation defining the next generation imaging for Medtronic’s Robotic Surgery Platform.
As the tech lead of imaging R&D projects, you will lead a cross-functional team with members from Centers of Excellence (Systems, HW, SW, System Integration and Verification & Validation) and other teams. You will leverage your technical expertise on imaging system including its various components, and your management skills to influence large cross-functional project teams for delivery of excellent results. You are expected to be able to define the critical performance criteria for the imaging system and its components. And you will architect a system that can be implemented efficiently by various sub-teams with clear focus on key issues to address.
If needed, you will represent R&D function, as the R&D core team member, to work with the core team consisting of Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Program management and Operation to make critical decision regarding projects execution and future product roadmap.
Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of 15 years’ experience in relevant work with 5 years in the medical industry.
Preferred Technical Experience:
  • Experience architecting, developing, and testing of endoscopic imaging system
  • Detailed understanding of critical performance specifications for imaging systems and standards for testing to evaluate the performance
  • Detailed understanding of imaging platform, optical design, camera sensor, illumination design, mechanical considerations, and image processing hardware
  • Working knowledge of medical imaging modalities such as fluorescence imaging for advanced procedures
  • Understanding of robotics, real-time operating systems, and SW development
  • Experience with following processes and creating documentation within a quality management system, including design descriptions, risk management, requirements, and verification / validation.
Preferred Project Leadership Experience
  • A proven leader of innovation on multiple, multidisciplinary projects in a regulated industry
  • Proven ability to translate high level program objectives into action plans for an R&D team in order to meet short- and long-term goals and timelines
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate, influence, and inspire others around a vision of excellence for a bright future
  • Well-developed collaboration skills with proven track record of interfacing between multiple groups and functions (R&D, QA, operations, marketing, regulatory, and external experts)
  • Experience with business development and defining a product roadmap for future growth of a multidisciplinary platform
  • Patient centric mindset with a strong desire to improve clinical outcomes
