Position Title : Diabetes Educator Based in Alhassa

Diabeter/Diabetes360™ is a network of clinics working in partnership with Medtronic providing direct care to patients with diabetes.  Our aim is to decrease the burden of diabetes for patients and their families by supporting them to achieve better clinical outcomes and to live a healthier and longer life without complications. Diabeter/Diabetes360™ works as an integrated practice unit using standardised pathways, IT infrastructure and outcomes-based care.
Diabeter NL was the first of this clinic network and provides care to 2,500 children and adults type 1 diabetes across the Netherlands.  

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The diabetes educator reports to Training and Education Specialist with dotted line reporting to the Clinical Excellence Manager EMEA.

The diabetes educator is responsible for diabetes education at the time of diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and on an ongoing basis.  This includes counseling, coaching, education and training and motivation of patients and parents. The work is done in accordance with the applicable protocols within Diabeter/Diabetes360 and KSA MOH quality and regulatory guidance.

This role does not provide direct clinical nursing care to patients and is a training, education and counselling role for all aspects of diabetes self-care practices and in the instigation and transition between different insulin delivery modalities for patients with type1 diabetes.
Expertise
Diabetes disease and therapy expert
Apply the diagnostic and therapeutic educational interventions in the field of diabe-tes care, properly and where possible evidence-based
Delivering effective and ethically responsible diabetes education to patients to teach and promote self-care practices

Communication
Realizing an effective care relationship with patients and their next of kin
Obtain effective patient information by actively listening
Discuss the care and treatment in a clear and understandable manner with the pa-tient and/or parent(s)
Adequate oral and written report on patient care

Working together
Communicate effectively with colleagues and other healthcare professionals
Delivering effective peer consultation
Contribute to effective interdisciplinary cooperation and multidisciplinary care

Organization
Organizing the work so that there is a balance in patient care and the recognition of the boundaries of their own tasks and expertise. 
Effective and efficiently working within a multidisciplinary diabetes team
Ensure responsible spending of available resources
Use of information technology for optimal patient care and for further education
Contributing to transparency and quality of care for patients

Social action
Knowing and recognizing the factors that characterize type 1 diabetes mellitus 
Promote patient health and well-being

Science and education
Critically assess the medical and nursing information about diabetes
Participate in the development of scientific knowledge about diabetes and in pro-moting the improvement of this subject knowledge.
Develop and maintain a personal education and training plan
Promote the expertise of students, colleagues, patients and other others involved in care and care providers for diabetes
Maintaining knowledge by means of participation in, for example: continuing edu-cation, conferences, symposia and the keeping track of professional literature
Keep up to date with relevant developments within the profession

Professionalism
Delivering high-quality diabetes education to patients (e.g. builds a good therapeu-tic relationship with patient)
Display of adequate personal and interpersonal professional behaviour (e.g. reflects and analyzes own competencies)
Know the boundaries of their own competencies and responsibilities and act within them (e.g. have knowledge and acquire competence from the nursing discipline)
Exercise the profession as a guide to the professional profile of diabetes educator (e.g. develops guidelines and care protocols to ensure and improve quality) in col-laboration with quality manager

Additional task areas, competencies diabetes educator
Conduct consultations, conduct meetings of educators, attend consultations
Central contact point of Diabeter/Diabetes360 specialists and regional face for ex-ternal parties
Provide a safe and hygienic environment for patients and employees

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma in Nursing/Registered (General Nursing Midwifery) Educator, with a certification paediatric nursing 
Additional training and experience for diabetes educator would be an asset. 
JOB EXPERIENCE
>3 years expertise in the field of paediatric diabetes care as a diabetes educator
Has a thorough knowledge of the diabetes disease area and has insight into treatment theories, treatment methods and course of the disease



SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

Self-starter, comfortable shaping priorities and agenda
Strong organizational and time management skills
Analyzing and interpreting data, trends and information
Proven ability to influence, coach, support and empower patients
Fluent in Arabic and English
