Medtronic’s Tempe, Arizona Microelectronic Solutions location, is looking for a Principal Equipment Engineer that will accept the challenge of learning and developing multiple disciplines in the Integrated Circuit (IC) Test Systems and Equipment Engineering operation organization.

The person that takes this role will be expected to play an active role in supporting manufacturing test system maintenance, continuous improvement, and equipment life-cycle management of various Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and other manufacturing equipment supporting IC post-processing. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the patients we serve and an unrelenting desire to improve our business. The candidate will have a working knowledge of IC test system function, IC test system applications software and hardware, IC post-processing techniques and materials and a Wafer level testing process. The candidate will be well versed in software tools, have strong electronic debug skills, be motivated, and must have exceptional soft skills that will be used to work with multiple teams including Operation team, Test Application team and ATE Vendors or other equipment suppliers.

A Day in the Life
The selected candidate will provide hands-on and technical support and training including root cause identification, debug, test system installation, integration to the manufacturing area, modification, upgrades, preventive and unplanned maintenance and calibration, as needed, to understand and improve equipment performance and reliability, all while supporting IC production operations. The individual will partner with a diverse workforce to ensure proper production support, and to ensure maintenance is performed on time and repairs are of the highest quality possible to meet organizational goals for quality, delivery and cost. The candidate will also become the resident subject matter expert on these test systems and provide coaching and training to lower level professionals. The candidate will be involved in Test equipment selection and development and working with a cross functional teams to ensure smooth integration into the Manufacturing area.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years  experience

Nice to Have
• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or other related Engineering discipline
• Lab bench analysis skills, i.e., Oscilloscope and circuit failure analysis skills
• Strong understanding of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and Micro-electronics manufacturing assembly equipment with experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of Teradyne Keithley, J750, SPEA and/or LTX Test systems and EG4090 or Accretech prober or Equivalent.
• Understanding of structured programming languages, scripting languages and operating systems.
• Experience with use of statistical process control and data analysis tools.
• Experience with Six Sigma, Lean, DMAIC, TPS, etc. or Green/Black Belt Lean Sigma certification
• Adept at interpreting electrical schematics for troubleshooting test/manufacturing equipment and hardware.
• People skills to understand cultural differences, adapts quickly, and collaborates effectively
• Good writing and documentation skills
• Good organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication
• Ability to interface well with peers and Production personnel.
• A strong mechanical acumen is preferred.
