The Principal Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the development of production equipment for new products. The Principal Manufacturing Engineer is expected to take a leadership role within the group such as an equipment lead or a lead in area of expertise. The Principal Manufacturing Engineer should be capable of carrying out job responsibilities with minimal supervision.


•Oversee development of assembly and test equipment required for new products
•Participate and provide leadership in all project meetings and cross functional team meetings
•Design assembly equipment fixtures using 3D CAD
•Lead assembly equipment design reviews
•Manage vendor adherence to equipment specifications
•Oversee manufacturing and qualification of assembly equipment
•Lead team of designers and engineers to meet project schedules
•Adhere to environmental health and safety policy and procedures


•Continue to develop engineering skills through additional training and educational programs
•Provide engineering direction to Associate and Manufacturing engineering team members
•Document lessons learned and implement best practices.
•Investigate and develop new processes required to improve manufacturing operations.

A Day in the Life


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for production support engineering with respect to testing methods, procedures, and problems; device specification and yield problems; minor redesign of devices and masks; analysis of customer returns; supplier related engineering changes and optimizing device production relative to cost constraints.
  • Assumes responsibility for device and/or internally produced or externally purchased components after transfer into high-volume production and usually responsible for entire device manufacturing operations other than wafer fabrication.
  • May assist customer in device usage problems or customer testing of complex devices.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
  • Bachelors degree required

•Product Development Experience

•Proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks or other 3D CAD systems
•Experience in applying machining and manufacturing processes
•Extensive knowledge and application of assembly equipment techniques
•Experience in machine design and controls
•Experience in design for lean manufacturing
•Experience in process control and validation

•Project management experience
•Mathematical and mechanical aptitude
•Ability to perform engineering analyses and reporting
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Interpersonal, strong business acumen and composure
