The Principal SAP Technical Architect role is responsible for leading technology strategy definition and related roadmaps in and around the SAP space at Medtronic.  This role works with Enterprise Solution Architects, Business Solution Architects and Data Architects and external service providers to ensure technologies and technically enabled capabilities align with stated architecture strategies and Medtronic’s standards and delivery capabilities.  Key deliverables include:
• Technology vendor assessments
• Technology roadmaps and standards maintenance 
• Technology architecture standards & reference models 
• Project-level Architecture Definition Documents (technical components)
• Input to business capability models, assessments, roadmaps 
• Input to enterprise solution strategy assessments across capability & technology areas

This role will serve as a delivery team member and responsible to review new initiatives and provide architecture guidance and decisions regarding the viability of components, design and operationalize the landscape, and participate as required within the Architecture Review Board to establish and maintain standards.

• Ensure all technical aspects of architecture definition (solution design and analysis work) are documented and stored per enterprise standards.
• Provide platform strategies, guidance and frameworks to technology (application, infrastructure) development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to business capability needs.
• Partner with other architects to analyze:
o Enterprise business drivers to determine corresponding change requirements.
o The IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend broad-based solutions for improvement.
o Technology industry and market trends and determine their potential impact on the enterprise.
• Establish & document technology architecture design principles and standard reference models (standard architecture design supporting future architecture needs).
• Partner with the Global Infrastructure and External Service Provider to deliver future SAP solutions and strategies. Orchestrate key proof of concept pilots/programs to assess the potential business value of SAP functionality / technologies.
• Drive and articulate the SAP infrastructure roadmap, driving business value by influencing customers to use existing investments whenever possible.
• Engage in project / release scoping discussions to understand business requirements and complexity to ensure the appropriate SAP infrastructure services and capabilities are available.
• Release (cutover) planning, articulate and resolve timelines for various cutover activities, serve as technical point and SME for SAP infrastructure technologies.
• Partner closely with infrastructure teams and suppliers on architectural design, application upgrades, release and project implementations, capacity management and system performance.
• Actively support the execution of the Solution Selection Process with enterprise, business solution, and data architects; ensure alignment to enterprise standards and define new solutions to meet business capability needs.
• As a member of the broader Medtronic architecture virtual organization, act as a key contributor to the enterprise reference architecture models (creation, maintenance, governance).

• Proactively engage with Medtronic business and Global IT partners to identify and define opportunities where the application of information technology can advance the strategic goals and objectives of Medtronic.

MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)
• Bachelor’s degree
• 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)
• Previous Medtronic experience
• Preference given to current Medtronic employees
• Priority consideration will be given to local applicants
• 5+ years of experience with infrastructure, enterprise, or solution design in SAP Basis
• 3+ years of experience with SAP HANA database 
• 3+ years of technical leadership experience leading technology or deployment projects
• 2+ years of experience with cloud-based solutions (e.g., applications (SaaS), platforms (PaaS), and infrastructure (IaaS)) within an Enterprise environment
• SAP S/4HANA hands-on implementation experience incl. FIORI 
• Strong experience in SAP Sizing, SAP HA/DR Design, SAP Operational Best Practices, SAP version upgrades using Solution Manager
• SAP Certification
• At least one implementation of SAP BW/4 HANA or a proof of concept
• At least one ECC migration to SAP/4 HANA
• Medical device, life sciences industry background 
• Experience with mergers, acquisitions, and divestiture
• Experience with EDI Integration
• Demonstrated ability in performance tuning methodologies, capacity planning, release management, monitoring and reporting processes
