A Day in the Life
As a member of the IC design team in the technology organization, you will be responsible for the scouting, evaluation, and development of new IC technology for use in Medtronic medical devices.  The primary focus of this work is on ultra-low power design for battery powered implantable medical devices.  This position is a hands-on, early-phase technology position that spans technology scouting through silicon evaluation in the lab and support of product development.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Work with internal customers to understand their needs and use cases.
  • Perform feasibility analysis including both paper and simulation analysis.
  • Develop test chips to confirm process and circuit performance.
  • Develop SRAM and standard cell library IP.
  • Provide design support for test engineers developing ATE test solutions.
  • Characterization of test structures, design blocks, and ICs using standard bench lab equipment.
  • Document silicon characterization results, performance of technology relative to targets, etc.
  • Support transition of IC technology from early feasibility into product development.
  • Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment, or other hardware systems and/or electrical engineering applications.
  • Determines design approaches and parameters.
  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results.
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
  • May also review vendor capability to support product development.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Must have taken multiple designs from concept through silicon validation
  • Transistor-level design in deep submicron processes
  • Design of standard logic cells for ultra-low power applications
  • Management of on-chip variation
  • Familiar with STA and timing constraints
  • Design of embedded SRAM for ultra-low power applications
  • Familiar with SRAM failure mechanisms and production test methodologies
  • Firm understanding of variation, yield, and high-sigma design
  • Must be comfortable working in an early technology role and able to help mature customer needs and end product goals into work/technology/strategic direction
  • Nonvolatile memory experience
  • Experience with IO cell design and ESD
  • Understanding of or experience with semiconductor radiation effects such as total ionizing dose and single event effects
  • Comfortable working with silicon in the lab
  • Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL
  • Synthesis and PNR experience
  • C and assembly programming
  • Linux scripting in Perl/Python/shell/etc
  • Experience in adjacent areas such as ATE test program development or analog IC design helpful but not required
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal/team effectiveness, ability to communicate to various levels of management
