A Day in the Life

As the Principal Strategic Sourcing Specialist you will be the primary Sourcing point of contact to Technology and NPD Project Teams aligning Medtronic Product and Supplier Technology Road maps. 

You will:

  • Communicate sourcing risks early in the development cycle to drive mitigating designs and or focused Supplier Development. 
  • Drive Supplier Evaluation, Selection, Development, Qualification, and Product Launch Ramp-up in line with Commodity Strategies.
  • Identify potential new sources in Technologies where Commodity Strategies do not yet exist.
  • Partner with Development and Sourcing Leadership to ensure adequate resources are deployed for Technology and Development Projects.  
  • Report out, periodically and minimally at each Phase Gate, the Sourcing Strategy for the Project that will track and report metrics, risks, and mitigation plans for Component Quality, Supply Risk, Cost, Lead-time, and Technology.  
  • Periodically review Medtronic Product Plans and Technology initiatives with Sourcing to provide early communication for Commodity Management and Component Engineering for Supplier Identification & Capability development.  Review and be knowledgeable of Commodity Strategy updates to ensure Supply Technology Road maps are integrated into Product Develop Programs.
  • Monitor overall Component Quality Levels for the Project completed per DRM Processes in strong alignment and coordination with the Component Engineering function.  Component Engineering and SSS will provide an early voice to influence Specification and Supplier Development.
  • Provide front line negotiation with knowledge of Commodity Strategies and an ability to influence design/technology/source decisions.  
  • Identify and monitor Sourcing Supply Chain lines to ensure efficient sourcing arrangements are made through the Source Selection process, (Systems view, Total Cost of Acquisition Model, Process Mapping, knowledge of Supplier's Supply Chain).

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have
  • Knowledge of applicable FDA/GMP and International medical device regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of ISO Standards.
  • PMI Certified.
  • Experience in medical device industry.
  • Knowledge with specific technologies to applicable commodities.
  • 7+ years in a sourcing, project management, or product development role
  • Project management experience
  • Proven communication, leadership, and interpersonal and team building skills
  • Influence skills to achieve results across a matrixed organization 
  • Ability to manage multiple technologies and priority changes while consistently meeting customer needs
  • Broad technical knowledge / background
  • Proven track record negotiating with complex projects
  • Lean Sigma experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
