The MITG Ops Robotics Team is seeking to fill a Sr. Manufacturing Engineering position, reporting to the Director of Robotics Operations. This team is responsible to maintain production of the new Robotics platform as it launches and goes through production scale-up. These products are made at several Contract Manufacturers [CM’s].The group is responsible to maintain production, support quality investigations, process changes, capacity analysis, capital investments, cost down and process validations.

• Identifies, in conjunction with leadership, process and system deficiencies, opportunities and recommends solutions. 
• Executes initiatives in all product manufacturing aspects: Cost reduction, quality improvement, Service/Repair, Process Improvement, Documentation.
• Documents and analyzes information and data as needed to make programs successful and communicate with a wide variety of audiences
• Creates and maintains excellent working relationships within the teams assigned, and across Medtronic functions and departments. 
• Gathers and analyzes manufacturing metrics and works closely with Quality organization to define appropriate process changes.
• Uses statistical techniques to compile and analyze data and realize appropriate improvement initiatives. Improve productivity and optimize process capability through technical assessment and analytical challenge  
• Works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to coordinate product changes.
• Administration of the Process Development and Validation function within the manufacturing facility. Assure current validation status on manufacturing processes, develop trained validation resources in all manufacturing departments and prevent excessive validation-related delays in product release.
• Establish part metrology fixturing, processes, & procedures
• Global travel required to support vendor base and Medtronic locations
• Key member of the team interfacing and coordinating with the Contract Manufactures.
• Drives change control process and documentation

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Cross functional meetings focused on process simplification and changes to reduce overall costs
- Meetings with Contract Manufacturers to review performance, yield issues, End of life risks and planning.
- Review process validation plans. Update documentation and lead change order approvals.
- Meeting with R&D sub-system team to VAVE, alternative suppliers, process and materials to minimize costs

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
BS degree in Engineering or scientific/technical discipline

-Experience in engineering preferably in the robotics industry or medical capital goods manufacturing. 
-Solid understanding of Engineering, Project Management, Lean Principles, Six Sigma.
-Experience with industrial engineering processes including takt/cycle times estimates, process flow, line layout, capacity planning.
-Ability to prepare written policies, procedures, proposal, and reports.
-Knowledgeable in risk management methodologies such as DFMEA and PFMEA.
-Process knowledge, Electro/Mechanical assembly, Metal Injection Molding, Plastic injection molding, CNC and CMM.
-Medical Device Regulations.

Standard office setting, clean room, model shop, supplier visits plus approximately 25% domestic and international travel as required.
