A Day in the Life

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the R&D Robotics team in the design and development of innovative new products within surgical platforms. The role involves the application of design engineering principles, technical skills, team work and creative problem solving to design and deliver high quality innovative medical devices intended to improve patient outcomes and the quality of life for millions of people.

 As part of your day to day you will:

  • Be a part of a multidisciplinary team (Mechanical and Electrical engineers) that is responsible for developing surgical platforms.
  • Designing surgical instruments and surgical platforms according to specification and regulation requirements. From proof of concept to production line implementation.
  • Interfaces with outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing and assembly.
  • Lead technical Investigations.
  • Write technical documentations.
  • Support production line escalations.

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with at least 4 years of product design experience.
  • Extensive experience with designing highly accurate machined parts, sheet metal parts and mechanisms.
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T including tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • In-depth experience in CAD tools, such as Solidworks, is expected.
  • Strong knowledge of metal and plastic component manufacturing processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • Strong initiative.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with ability to work on your own.
  • Passionate hands-on approach.
  • Able to effectively work with cross functional teams in a multinational matrix organization.

 

Nice to Have

  • Medical device design experience – is advantage.
  • Experience designing and working with electrical motors (Stepper and DC).
  • Experience designing and working with pneumatic systems.
  • Experience designing wiring, cabling and PCBs.
  • Knowledge on Engineering Change Management processes and PLM tools such as PTC Windchill.
  • Good understanding of medical device standards, guidelines and regulations.
