Apply for the Senior Principal External Communications Specialist role for the Minimally Invasive Therapies Group (MITG)  Communications team. As a key team member, you lead and manage MITG external communications with a focus on proactive targeted external storytelling, support for business public relations, as well as issues and reputation management. This position reports to the Director, MITG External Communications and is not limited by location. 


A Day in the Life
Advance the company narrative to media and other external audiences, to include storytelling and the strategic creation and execution of Public Relations efforts
Identify and pitch stories that highlight Medtronic’s MITG strategy and initiatives and enhance the company’s image and branding through consistent message delivery
Partner with our corporate communication team and MITG’s Communications Business Partners, to lead the development and execution of MITG’s issues management process, including preparedness and management to protect Medtronic’s internal and external reputation
Proactively scan the external and internal landscape to identify potential issues that could impact the group and address in partnership with MITG communications colleagues
Partner with Communications Business Partners to create strategic recommendations and plans to proactively advance the goals of the businesses
Conduct proactive outreach to key media stakeholders, including journalists and relevant influencers and manage incoming media requests under deadline 
Proactively identify strategies to leverage the PESO (paid, earned shared and owned) model to drive MITG thought leadership  
Own the writing, editing and approval of external event scripts, speeches, key documents and reports, promotional materials, press releases, media interviews, FAQs and other external communications approaches 
Conduct internal briefings to ensure alignment of external messages across audiences
Manage the internal review process for external communications materials
Develop, implement and maintain appropriate metrics to evaluate impact and effectiveness of external communications
Must Haves
Bachelor's Degree and • 10+ years of progressive corporate or agency communications experience with a Bachelor’s Degree; or, 8+ years with aadvanced Degree

Nice to Have
Strong complex problem-solving skills with issues and reputation management 
Solid track record and demonstrated results with media relation campaigns
Significant interpersonal and stakeholder alignment capability
Robust storytelling capabilities
Strong writing and presentation skills
Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
Healthcare industry experience
Knowledge of social and digital media engagement
Knowledge of financial communications and investor relations
Proven ability to comprehend and translate business strategies into clear communications for external audiences
