This position is responsible for contributing to therapy development activities of the Targeted Drug Delivery business and for defining and implementing new research, therapy development, and therapy/product enhancements for commercial released and new products through pre-clinical and clinical feasibility studies. This position requires collaboration across multiple disciplines including Business Development, Research & Development, Clinical, Pre-clinical Research Labs, external researchers, and physicians to identify new research opportunities to advance existing and new therapies.
This role will make actionable scientific and technical contributions (delivering scientific data/evidence, innovative solutions to challenges, technical assessment, and expertise-based decisions, insights) that positively impact patients and the business, including writing and approving manuscripts for publication. This role will also propose, design, and oversee pilot studies for proof-of-concept/feasibility to demonstrate the potential of new therapies, and/or concepts within and outside existing indications.

Day in the life:
• Coordinate and facilitate inputs into key strategic partnerships for new intrathecal indications and therapy development areas
• Collaborate with BU business development and chief scientist on identifying new indications and therapy opportunities
• Interface with the BU’s physician customers and strategic partners to communicate scientific opportunities and positions
• Support evaluation of new molecules of interest for new therapy opportunities. 
• Participate in external and internal research initiatives related to the BU for TDD.
• Participate in formulating and executing scientific/technical assessments to meet unmet customer needs in the area of new TDD therapies, and translate technical opportunity into customer and business solutions by having and applying therapy knowledge, general knowledge of scientific, technology and industry trends, broad knowledge of the scientific disciplines, and overall Research capabilities.
• Work with a cross-functional proposal team to provide Research proposals. 
• Conduct briefings and technical meetings for management and customer representatives.
• Work is performed without appreciable direction but in balance with BU and Research organizational objective.
• Support business due diligence efforts regarding scientific assessment of the viability and integration of molecules and technologies of interest and intellectual property into the Medtronic product portfolio, as well as involve additional technical expertise as appropriate.

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field
• 10+ years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree OR
• 8+ years of experience with an Advanced Degree


Nice to Have
• PhD in Neuroscience, Chemistry or in Pharmacology with Neuroscience emphasis. 
• 5 or more years in medical device product development, or other highly regulated environment
• Broad cross-functional understanding of business administration and the pharmacologic or biotechnology industry
• Broad understanding of the scientific foundation and clinical practice for various therapy area(s)
• Recognized as a therapy level thought leader
• Track record of successful leadership of major technical programs across full product lifecycle. 
• Experience working directly with physicians and other healthcare professionals in the medical device or healthcare industry.
• Strong executive-level leadership presence, skills and proven ability to work effectively in a multi-divisional, multi-cultural, matrixed organization. 
• Excellent poise and confidence when interacting with physicians, patients, hospital administrators, and senior management and sales leadership.
• Understands global market dynamics and issues, knowledge of competitive products, strategies, and companies.
• Demonstrated ability to gather complex inputs and constraints and synthesize into clear strategy plans.
• Strong communication, negotiation and conflict management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to formulate written strategies and communicate them orally and with clear documentation.
• Strong experience in coordinating business plans across matrixed organizations.
• Proven ability to initiate, build, and sustain strong positive relationships with clinician customers.
• Ability to collaborate with and influence individuals from a wide variety of geographies, functions, and levels throughout the organization.
