To serve as a partner with the Vice President, Business Development and Strategic Partnering and CRHF/AFS business unit management to seek out new products, therapies diagnostics, technologies and intellectual property that will support and accelerate the execution of CRHF/AFS business unit strategic plans.  Identifies, evaluates, and manages relationships with third parties and is responsible for structuring and execution of strategic partnerships, acquisitions and licenses.  Drive the overall alignment and prioritization of external opportunities with internal capabilities and vision.  Proactively scours the market for companies and technologies to fill identified strategic and technical gaps.  

A Day in the Life


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Partner with CRHF/AFS business unit leadership to identify strategic needs and potential target companies/technologies.

  • Perform strategic and market analysis for proposed transactions, including assessment of CRHF/AFS strategic objectives and proposed transaction relationship/fit with those objectives.

  • Develop financial and valuation models for proposed transaction and identify and assess opportunities and risks of proposed transactions including financial, operational, and integration synergies/issues.

  • Manage all business unit due diligence activities in partnership with Corporate Development.

  • Support the negotiation of transactions including, minority investments, development agreements, acquisitions, and licenses with third parties. 

  • Engage and inform CVG and CRHF/AFS leadership on business development activity and status.

  • Coordinate with Corporate Development for deal execution.

  • Partner with CRHF/AFS business unit management teams to develop criteria for identifying and assessing external opportunities.

  • Perform strategic and market analysis for proposed transactions, including assessment of Medtronic strategic objectives and proposed transaction relationship/fit with those objectives.


Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years medical device or healthcare experience (finance, upstream marketing or business development) or deal experience (investment banking, private equity or venture capital) with a bachelors’ degree; or, 5+ years of same experience with an advanced degree
Nice to Have
  • Strong analytical skills and financial modeling experience
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • In-depth experience using advanced functions and tools within Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
  • Previous work experience in business development, strategic planning and/or M&A.
  • Experience working with and presenting to all levels of management including business unit GMs, business presidents and group presidents
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously 
  • Cross-functional team leadership experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience negotiating NDAs or other business agreements
