A Day in the Life

The Senior Project Manager will be a key member of the Medtronic Program Management team working to commercialize a Surgical Robotics Platform. This senior level project management position will work closely with program management, subsystem technical leads, engineers, and cross functional core team members to manage and coordinate development activities. They will be responsible for project management activities dedicated to specific Surgical Robotic Instrument subsystems. This person will ensure that the cross functional teams are efficient and well-coordinated, have clear priorities and goals, develop and track to schedules, and deliver quality designs according to the new product development process.


Responsibilities Include: 

  • Constructs, updates and maintains project plans, timelines, resources, charters, and schedules
  • Tracks and monitors project progress to achieve project management stage deliverables and project milestones
  • Establishes a communication schedule to update stakeholders (including multiple teams, sites and disciplines) on the progress of the project
  • Schedules core team and other similar project meetings, documents meeting minutes and key decisions, and tracks action items
  • Coordinates, tracks, proofs and finalizes project documents as needed with limited supervision
  • Manages the development and implementation process of products and services involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new products which include software and hardware.
  • Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.
  • Monitors the project from initiation through delivery.
  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity and quality goals and objectives.
  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with a cross functional team.
Must Have: Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Business Administration (MBA)
  • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Expert knowledge of hardware engineering management, both tools and process (project tracking/scheduling; bills of materials; document management; issue/bug tracking; configuration management; integration/release testing; etc.)
  • Comfortable with a range of project management methodologies (sequential/waterfall, Scrum, Agile, etc.)
  • Well-versed in R&D, product development, and clinical/regulatory process (e.g. IEC 60601, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, ISO 13485)
  • Experience with Microsoft suite of tools (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience leading diverse and complex projects and programs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to influence all customers (both internal and external) on issues that impact the business and its technical service and product strategies
  • Experience coordinating multiple teams to execute concurrent, interdependent projects
