Senior Software Engineer - Surgical Robotics

 A Day in the Life:

 As a Software Engineer, you will join a team of engineers working on the development and commercialization of Medtronic’s next-generation Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) platform.  You will focus on the development of software for the robotic platform.  This involves prototyping ideas in collaboration with systems and hardware teams, defining requirements, design and implementation of software for the distributed embedded real-time platform. If you are a pioneer and would like to have a big impact into the new world of medicine, explore with us!

 You will:

  • Design and develop C++ library and applications and library for the robot’s real-time operating system and control platform.
  • Define and review software requirements
  • Define and execute verification plans.  Test software and fix defects.
  • Review source code and ensure that all software meets quality standards.  Prepare and participate in design reviews.
  • Document software including architecture and design detail, unit testing, known anomalies and vulnerabilities tracking and reports.
  • Build proof of concept software in collaboration with other teams.
  • Perform integration of software components with the rest of the system and profile system performance.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to have:

  • A bachelor's degree in in Computer Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent degree and 3-5 years of professional work experience required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in an object-oriented language like C++
  • Good understanding and experience in software design patterns, data structures and advanced programming techniques.
  • Experience with software tools (build, code coverage, static analysis, source control, automated test, etc.).
  • Experience developing software in a Linux environment
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills with ability to work effectively in a team or individually with supervision.
  • Experience with networking protocols such as DHCP/ DNS / NTP
  • Comfortable with common development tools:  environments, compilers, build management software, debugging and source control tools, etc.
  • Experience with distributed real-time software.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as python.
  • Experience developing software within the Medical Device industry.
  • Experience with one or more: TDD, Unit Test, continuous integration and delivery.
  • Experience with cryptography and Cybersecurity concepts
  • Experience with real-time communication protocols like DDS, EtherCAT
