A Day in the Life

The Service Marketing Product Specialist will report to and work closely with the Director of Commercial Service in defining and driving the functional business plan and P&L, along with the Commercial Service Strategy.  This position has the responsibility to identify, develop and expand the US ventilation and patient monitoring services market by working in collaboration with sales teams, and will increase services market penetration by promoting new and established programs to internal and external customers.   In addition, this position will work directly with customers (internal and external) to capture needs and trends and translate those to actionable tactics.  This person will also be responsible for developing and implementing metrics and trend analysis to ensure Service goals are achieved.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


•Work with Director Commercial Service and Product Marketing team to develop the Commercial Service Business Strategy

•Identify and evaluate market trends, business opportunities, and value creators for our existing service product offerings as well as new break-through offerings to grow the service business

•Gather and analyze customer needs/ input and translate them into service product offerings with relevant positioning and value propositions (via market research activities, analysis, and on-going communication with key customers)

•Supervise and routinely inspect service pricing and margin levels to ensure they meet or exceed business goals

•Cross functionally collaborate, as it relates to Service product and program management, with the global marketing, sales, manufacturing, logistics, regulatory and quality to assess and evaluate business opportunities

•Ensure collaboration with other Marketing functions and R&D to align and coordinate on new product plans

•Develop product line metrics and analytics to track the success of service product/portfolio activities

•Facilitate the distribution of Field Service and marketing collateral and assets; provide vital information, messaging and competitive information to the Global Sales and Field Service teams

•Collaborates with sales and service training to ensure that the US sales and Service organizations are properly trained and engaged to deliver against the marketing plan:

  • Provide needed content to the sales training team to deliver appropriate content for service products and sales applications
  • Provide product updates and information to the US Sales organization

•Lead end-of-life (EOL) and end-of-service (EOS) strategy for field replacement unit (FRU) parts

•Represent the service function as the core team lead for remote service product development to ensure product requirements are represented and addressed accordingly

•Develop, manage and track commercialization execution related expenses

•Communicate budget status to Director of Commercial Service

•Service Program portfolio management

•Keeps abreast of key market drivers, trends and changes in the competitive landscape and works proactively to keep Medtronic ahead of the curve on key trends

Travel requirement: 25%

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• BS /BA Degree  

• Minimum of 2+ years of marketing experience


Nice to Have

  • Sales experience
  • Service marketing experience in the medical device industry
  • Thorough understanding of executional aspects of marketing- Advertising and promotion program management, packaging, product positioning and pricing
  • High degree of customer focus
  • Working understanding of financial documents- Income statements, expense budgeting, financial decision-making methods
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
  • Strong organization skills and able to effectively prioritize daily work demands
  • Responsive, confident problem solver
  • Willingness to work in a team environment including working with field Sales Professionals with a high sense of urgency
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing process, planning and logistics
  • Experience working in SAP and Salesforce
