The Software Quality Engineer has the responsibility and authority to ensure software products meet or exceed customer expectations for quality and reliability.  The position contributes to product development and regulatory compliance by defining, implementing and demonstrating achievement of quality and reliability goals, and supporting the product lifecycle through continual product and process improvement initiatives. This position also performs, facilitates and supports product risk assessment and failure analysis.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains standards and regulatory requirements for software systems quality operating methods, processes, and procedures to meet product or service quality requirements.
  • Coordination and guidance to cross functional teams to ensure software quality objectives are met for product software non-product software, manufacturing software, quality system software, software tools and software technologies included or used in the creation, support or production of medical devices.
  • Conducts evaluation of software systems activities including requirements, design, development, documentation, integration, test, verification and validation.
  • Develops and ensures the overall operating criteria to ensure implementation of the software quality program according to project, process and contract requirements and objectives.
  • Reviews software systems design, change specifications, and plans against contractual and/or process requirements.
  • Reviews include applicable specifications, materials, tools, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Provides or directs verification and validation of software system requirements, traceability, and testability.
  • Performs, facilitates and participates in risk management, software risk analysis, fault tree analysis, failure trending and failure analysis.
  • Identifies software quality challenges and software quality improvement opportunities and provides information to facilitate and support long-term planning.

 

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or technical discipline with 2+ years of work experience in Software, Engineering and/or Quality OR Master’s Degree Engineering, Science or technical field with 0+ years of work experience in Software, Engineering and/or Quality.

Nice to Have
  • Both Waterfall and Agile software development methodology
  • Ability to work with either Agile or Waterfall methodologies
  • Understanding of regulatory and security standards and requirements as related to healthcare.  Including HIPAA, HITECH and SOC 2
  • Quality system requirements as related to ISO 13485, IEC 62304, FDA QSR, CMDR regulations
  • Experience with Microsoft tools including .NET, ASP.NET, C#, SQL Server and Visual Studio
  • Experience with No SQL data storage technology such as MongoDB
  • Experience with server-side software development technologies such as Node.js, Angular, JAVA, NiFi and Kafka
  • Experience with cloud systems architecture using AWS including native tools and services
  • Experience with SOA and microservices-based systems architecture
  • Experience with iOS and Android mobile platforms including utilizing mobile hardware to support Bluetooth connections for external device/data integration
  • Experience with Continuous Integration tools such as Jenkins, SVN, GitLab, Maven, Gradle, Artifactory and automated unit test integration suites
  • Experience with Continuous Deployment tools such as Puppet, Octopus and AWS CodeDeploy
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology and/or applicable disease states, therapies and technologies
  • Strong technical writing experience
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office applications
