The Senior Manager provides oversight and leadership for design and implementation of all US medical educational activities (Professional Affairs and Clinical Education) in support of the Neurovascular product portfolio including the Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke franchises.  Specifically, this will involve leadership and oversight of programs and platforms for measuring and ensuring physician competence with the on-label use of company products, KOL relationships and professional society engagements

A Day In The Life
  • Develops and implements a world class physician training strategy that makes appropriate use of innovative adult education tools to ensure PACE strategic plans are aligned with business and divisional objectives to offer Healthcare Professionals with pragmatic and relevant medical education
  • Oversees and directs all necessary human and capital resources to accomplish division strategic and operating plan
  • Performs those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including timely expense reporting, performance tracking, goal setting, etc. 
  • Hire, develop, and promote employees to create a high-performance organization
  • Establishes and communicates strategic objectives and operating plan for the PACE function across the Neurovascular business
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, such as marketing, sales, clinical, R&D, HE&R, Quality, Compliance and Regulatory  
  • Ensures seamless interaction and knowledge transfer with international colleagues 
  • ‬‬Builds and monitors testing and validation tools to establish mastery of content of physician training, including measurement‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  • Implements physician training quality improvement initiatives and programs‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  • ‪‪Reviews current program offerings and ensures timely development and updating of training content‬‬
  • ‪‪‬‬‬‬‬‬‪‪Educates internal key stakeholders on physician training strategy to help drive business‬‬‬‬ objectives and gain alignment‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  • Updates all physician training content and develops a mechanism for periodic review and updating of content
  • Manages physician faculty and continues to develop key relationships‬‬‬‬ with KOL’s
  • ‬‬‬‬‬Provides guidance to assure that all necessary Medical Education activities are in governmental and Medtronic quality compliance always, including, but not limited to ACCME, AdvaMed, ISO 9001, FDA regulations, and QSR(GMP) standards
  • Develops and cultivates strong relationships with key academic institutions, hospitals, scientific societies and associations to facilitate education and professional development efforts.
  • Must possess strong clinical acumen and the ability to build strong relationships with field based teams
  • Oversees the implementation of policies and procedures
  • Provide direction and oversight to implement corporate compliance of third party (AdvaMed, Eucomed, etc) policies and procedures in accordance with laws and regulations of this and other countries, securing professional legal counsel when necessary, as it relates to education programs and funding policies.
  • Ensures effective objective value propositions are developed and articulated for Medtronic technologies to stakeholders (patients, health care providers, payers, government agencies, health technology assessment organizations, public) through appropriate channels.
  • MD designation only: Licensed MD may also interpret clinical trials/research, sign off on product safety reviews, establishes and approves scientific methods for design and implementation of clinical protocols, and final reports.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of global medical device education, physician training, clinical sales and marketing roles experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of global medical device education, physician training, clinical sales and marketing roles experience with 
  • Minimum 5 years of managerial experience
Nice To Have
  • Advanced Degrees (MSN, MBA, PhD, MD, etc)
  • 10+ years’ experience in global medical device education, physician training, clinical sales and marketing roles
  • Knowledgeable in adult learning and applicable medical education platforms 
  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Working knowledge of ACCME, AdvaMed, EUcomed, FDA and ISO regulations.
  • 7+ years of managerial and leadership experience 
  • Proven track record of designing, developing and managing strategic educational programs in keeping with organizational objectives
  • Ability to determine customer needs related to training, education, peer-to-peer learning, and user communities, and develop training opportunities and learning experiences to meet those needs  
  • Proven ability to effectively lead teams and manage multi-million dollar budgets
  • Ability to hire, retain and develop talent
  • Demonstrated ability to guide, mentor, and develop staff members and successors to key positions within the division.
  • Ability to develop short and long term strategic and operating plan for entire US PACE functional area.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and clinical/ technical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including proven verbal, written, and presentation skills. 
  • Proven ability to cultivate an active network of relationships within and outside of the organization.
  • Sound financial knowledge and experience to understand key financial indicators for the division as well as the company and to evaluate strategic opportunities.
  • Seasoned judgment to address and resolve critical issues and make timely, complex decisions.
  • Competencies: Integrity and trust, Drive for results, building effective teams, Action Oriented, business acumen, interpersonal savvy, dealing with ambiguity, managing diversity
  • Other Skills: Excellent strategic ability, creative thinker. Good interpersonal skills and understanding of surgical procedures and clinical needs

  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear, concise manner
