Lead and supervise Microbiology and/or Biocompatibility staff to providing support to Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing and Product Development), and special engineering projects. Make independent technical and functional decisions regarding acceptance or rejection of process, product components, subassemblies, solutions and the suitability of processes.  Develop, monitor and recommend manufacturing processes to ensure prevention of contamination, and develop robust biological and microbiological monitoring and control systems.

 

In this exciting role as a Sr Technical Supervisor you will have responsibility to assure that products and processes are in control and in compliance with corporate, division and regulatory agency requirements by the detection, appraisal, correction and prevention of sterilization, contamination and environmental control concerns. In addition, assure that all activities are incompliance with FDA GMP / GLP, ISO13485:2000, MDD and other national and international standards.

CORONARY AND STRUCTURAL HEART provides interventional devices to treat coronary arteries that are blocked by atherosclerotic plaque and devices and therapies to treat structural defects of the heart.

A Day in the Life

  • Provide technical and biological leadership and support to assigned operational areas (product development and/or manufacturing) including an objective microbial assessment

  • Make appropriate recommendations and drive the implementation to improve the quality of lab activities including product and safety related issues

  • Write, review, and approve protocols and reports pertaining to microbiology, sterilization, and/or biocompatibility.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop staff and direct reports.

  • Provide objective microbial quality assessment through raw data review and data trending.

Responsibilities may also include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical areas.
  • Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.
  • Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format.
  • Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Science or technical field with 3+ years of work experience in microbiology, sterilization, and/or biocompatibility experience OR Advanced Degree in Science or technical field with 1+ years of work experience in microbiology, sterilization, and/or biocompatibility experience

 

Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Leadership experience in laboratory setting.

  • Project Management skills needed to plan and manage documents and their configuration

  • International and national standards such as AAMI/ANSI standards, ISO 17665 (Steam), 14160 (Liquid), 11137 (Radiation), 11135 (EtO) and others as applicable (i.e. EN).

  • International standards in the use of materials of animal origin in medical devices (ISO 22442).

  • Application of GLP regulations and ISO 10993 biological evaluation medical device requirements.
