The Minimally Invasive Therapies Group strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions.  SURGICAL INNOVATIONS sets the standard for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) by creating innovative surgical products and services that focus on obesity and diseases and conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, lung, abdominal wall, pelvic region, and the head and neck.

A Day in the Life

As a core member of the Operational Excellence team, you will support policy deployment and execution of North Haven Site OpEx programs and policies within a manufacturing focus factory.  You will lead actions to meet the Focus Factory’s short and long-term goals for improved quality performance, increased service levels, Reduced COGS, and improve EHS performance in support of the North Haven Site and Global Business Unit goals. This role supports ~$250 MM cost of production across a variety of product families manufactured at the North Haven Operations Campus. 

You will:

Coach and train for Focus Factory (FF) employees in planning and execution of initiatives in support of the Medtronic Operating System global operational excellence program
Manage the scheduling and execution of Operational Excellence programs and efforts at the FF for short and long-term goals achievement assuring culture and systems development in support of continuous improvement in cost and quality performance.
Coach, mentor, and develop FF Lean Sigma Certification candidates (Green Belt/Black Belt) in support of certification goals for the site/FF.
Lead and support Operational Excellence training programs and events at the FF (DMAIC, A3 Problem Solving, First Time Quality, etc.….) in support of site goals for continuous improvement 
Assure Operations Excellence programs and initiatives are executed to and managed to reduce operational costs by 5-7% yearly within the FF.
Lead plant improvement projects of significant size and scope both within and outside of FF responsibility 
Support and contribute to deployment of the Focus Factory Operational Excellence plan for Cell Operating System (COS) and Medtronic Operating System (MOS)
Be an active member and leader of COS conversion teams utilizing COS playbook activity for successful “Go Live” results.
Identify best practices, ensure appropriate documentation and develop plans for deployment across FF 
Coach, motivate and foster professional development of focus factory employees in OPEX tools and systems.
Track annual completion of Work Flow Maturity (WFM) assessment plan at FF level and coach others on the assessment of WFM
Develop and/or update Value Stream Mapping by product family in collaboration with other team members as part of the FF improvement strategy
Establish waste-Walk cadence with FF leaders and document opportunities for improvement prioritizing implementation in alignment with site focus areas
Track FF KPIs and analyze trends for improvement opportunities
Must Have: Minimum Qualifications
BS/BA degree in Business Management, Engineering, or other related field of study with a minimum of 4 years of business operations and/or plant manufacturing or engineering experience which includes 1-2 years of demonstrated process improvement program success.   Certified Black Belt or Master Black Belt*

Nice to Have:
  • Lean Sigma Green/Black Belt certification or Equivalent
  • Advanced skills in statistical software packages Solid project management experience.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  
  • Strong coaching and facilitation skills.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  
  • Must have a solid understanding of Engineering, Project Management, Lean Principles, Six Sigma, Financial acumen.  
  • Ability to manage cross functionally with direct and indirect influence
  • Ability to Coach and facilitate individually and at the team level
