In the Surgical Robotics (SR) business, part of Medtronic’s Minimally Invasive Therapies Group, we believe patients around the world deserve access to quality care and improved outcomes. We strive to expand global access to care and reduce variability through robotic and analytics solutions.
Located in Boston, MA the newly formed Surgical Robotics Strategic Technologies (ST) team is responsible for identifying and developing technologies that enable Medtronic’s Surgical Robotics future product portfolio. The ST team works in close collaboration with the BD&L and R&D teams to specify, assess, integrate and demonstrate fit of these technologies via fully functional prototypes.
A Day in the Life
We are looking for a Senior Principal Technology Integration Engineer to join the team and lead the technology development efforts from inception to feasibility demonstration. This is an individual contributor position that plays a critical role in shaping the future of Medtronic’s Surgical Robotics business. This position reports to the Vice President Strategic Technologies, Surgical Robotics.
The individual we seek will have extensive experience leading
cutting-edge technology development in the medical device space; preferably in surgical
robotics. This individual is a self-starter and team player who thrives on
technology innovation in an agile, customer centric environment.
In close collaboration with R&D and Marketing personnel this position will focus on the inception and integration of technology in targeted areas to the point they are ready to enter the product development process.
As the Senior Principal Technology Integration Engineer, you will:
Lead technology innovation in line with SR’s product roadmap.
Conceive new approaches and develop Technology Requirements.
Work with internal and external resources to develop prototypes that integrate candidate technologies and demonstrate their feasibility.
Support the creation of Chartering Documents to seek management approval for funding and execution of ST projects.
Support the evaluation of development partners and act as a key contact person for the duration of the project.
Lead ideation sessions; create IP and prepare invention disclosures in focus areas.
Oversee the development of technology demonstration prototypes and address technical challenges as those arise.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required
Requires a University Degree and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have:
Demonstrated track record of achievement in bringing new, high risk technologies from inception through technology development and integration.
Advanced engineering or Robotics degree strongly preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
Customer centric mindset with demonstrated experience in User Needs research and tools.
Broad and deep technology knowledge and understanding.
Equally comfortable in communicating with Software, Hardware, Mechanical, Machine Learning and Human Factors engineers as well as surgeons.
Able to prioritize and address emerging and unplanned or time sensitive deadlines.
Excellent communication, networking and presentation skills.
Creative thinker with innate curiosity
Excellent organizational and follow up skills with strong attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience in developing technology for surgery strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to lead system-level architecture, requirements definition, analysis, and risk mitigation programs
