Technical Field Engineer II, Diagnostics, DC

Diagnostics & Monitoring is a division of Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm & Heart Failure (CRHF).  This is a critical field position that is aligned with our field sales areas with the primary objective to support the business unit strategies by serving as the field technical resource.  The position will be technical resource for all aspects of our devices including implant support and optimization, technical troubleshooting and patient data management.




1)      Area Technical and Sales Support (50%)

a)      Serves as area "expert" for all Diagnostics products and has a familiarity with tachyarrhythmia and bradyarrhythmia CRDM products.  

b)      Solid to expert working knowledge of CareLink and database systems.

c)       Assists and/or serves as consultant to sales reps with respect to the following areas:

i)       Implant & Programming

ii)     Troubleshooting technical issues and reprogramming

iii)    Patient Management and CareLink troubleshooting

iv)   Best practice implementation

d)      Represents Medtronic and proactively consults with physicians during product implants and follow-ups.

e)      Serves as technical resource to customers and Medtronic personnel for complex problems. Provides technical explanation and demonstration of products to customers.

f)        Proactively identifies targets in concert with the Area Manager related to (1) insertion to discharge and (2) Patient Management.  Expected to work with field team to accomplish goals set to move accounts toward optimization. 

g)      Provides input to field management on account/territory issues relating to alignment, coverage, objectives, etc.

h)      Strategizes with Sales Leaders and reps regarding account pursuit activities.

2)      Internal Engineering and Marketing Support Functions (25%)

a)      Develops or assists in developing marketing programs and materials.

b)      Provides technical support for Diagnostics organization such as core teams.

c)       Assists in-house engineering personnel in developing concepts for new products or modification of existing devices.

a)      Reviews and provides input to product plans.

b)      Actively participates in and contributes to TFE Consulting Teams.

c)       Travels extensively in the US and on occasion, outside the US, to assist with key customers and sales representatives.

d)      Performs other related duties as assigned


2)      Internal Education and Training (25%)

a)      Plan and execute training to new hire Sales Reps via live in person training at corporate HQ

b)      Conduct local training within area team for new hires and on-going training for tenured representatives 

c)       Work with area managers to identify ongoing needs of the field and training objectives for area team

d)      Training topics will include cardiovascular diseases, Heart Rhythms,  the application of Diagnostics products and Medtronic clinical protocols.

e)      Conducts customer training on use of Diagnostics products and clinical protocols and coordinates sales reps' involvement in this process.

f)        Assists in establishing training process and in developing training materials for sales reps and other field sales support.

g)      Delivers training to Medtronic personnel regarding competitive devices and their capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Nursing plus two years of Electro Physiologist experience to include assisting in implants or EPS studies or mapping/ablation studies.



Bachelor’s Degree plus five years working with implantable cardiac devices.


Ability to travel up to 50+% primarily US; some OUS travel as needed.



·       Prior cardiac device/TFE experience

·       Demonstrated ability to educate others on Medical Device technology.

·       Experience communicating highly technical and scientific data via group presentations

·       Experience with cardiac diagnostic and remote monitoring devices
