The Gastrointestinal and Hepatology Operating Unit (GIH) focuses on delivering value to its customers by providing innovative solutions that improve patient outcomes, lower the cost of healthcare delivery and allow early detection and then treatment of chronic diseases and cancers affecting the entire GI Tract and Hepatopancreatic system.

Covid19 has provided an opportunity where remote monitoring and diagnostic technologies are being adopted at scale to develop new pathways and prevent invasive diagnostic hospital-based tests. 

To support the remobilisation of Cancer Services and to help reduce backlogs and waiting lists, GIH has successfully won national contracts with NHS England, NHS Scotland, and HSE Ireland for its diagnostic lines including Colon Capsule Endoscopy (CCE) and Cytosponge, the innovative diagnostic solution for the early detection of Oesophageal Cancer . 

GIH is looking to take on a Therapy Development Specialist to further develop strategic partnerships and implement programmes that can pull through and expand the uptake of the GIH Diagnostic Portfolio across NHS England at scale. 

This is an exciting role for an experienced professional with excellent business skills, who likes rolling out high profile projects and working with a wide range of senior NHS stakeholders and organisations.

A Day in the Life

A new exciting opportunity has arisen for an GIH Therapy Development Specialist in England to join us. In this role you will build, maintain and develop GIH business relationships and partnerships with existing and new customers. You will act as the GIH diagnostic portfolio business liaison for our customers and as the interface with Sr. Management within our clients’ organisations.  You will lead and test new GIH service models that spearhead the uptake of the GIH diagnostic portfolio.

Main job duties/responsibilities

Reporting to the GIH Special Projects Manager the GIH Therapy Development Specialist will support to:
  • Successfully rollout the GIH CCE programme with NHS England Cancer Alliances and NHS Trusts 
  • Support NHS Trusts in setting up their CCE clinics and ensuring that they follow NHSE guidance
  • Work with Cancer Alliances to set up ‘Reader Hubs’ for networking NHS Trusts in locality to drive CCE uptake and long-term partnerships
  • Manage the GIH relationship with all senior clinical and senior non-clinical stakeholders across the Cancer Alliance and in NHS Trusts that have an interest in improving early diagnostics in the GI space.
  • Manage the GIH relationship with clinicians who are responsible for clinical strategy and funding decisions within locality and NHS trusts for the GIH portfolio
  • Plan and implement the rollout of Cytosponge in regional areas across England
  • Working together with the GIH team (Business Analyst or others), take ownership on developing and executing commercial business plans, focused on growing and expanding the number of diagnostic procedures which successfully leveraging the GIH Diagnostics Portfolio across your region
  • Lead strategically important commercial projects: develop and test-run new Medtronic GIH pilots service offerings such as pharmacy and home delivery etc.
  • Collaborate with all sub-contractors supporting GIH projects to ensure effective implementation of programmes and key deliverables 
  • Identify, frame and prioritize initiatives to capture value, and establish roadmap and develop actionable plans for immediate and long-term business
  • Support healthcare organizations in the development of business cases and support approval from key regulators.
  • Act as an ambassador and accelerator within GIH to create excitement, interest and tangible demand for GIH oriented long-term partnership models.
  • Support local Territory Sales Manager in leveraging GIH portfolio sales 
Must Haves
  • Degree or above in a healthcare related area or equivalent experience working in the healthcare field 
  • Strong business and sales acumen in a complex environment where multiple stakeholders must be managed as one to achieve a result
  • Project management experience 
  • Experience in developing NHS business cases, preferably including elements of equipment investment and patient pathway redesign 
  • Working knowledge of professional body recommendation and regulatory guidance (e.g. Royal College, HBNs/HTMs, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of the decision-making process within NHSE, NHS Trusts (provider approvals and economic buyers).
  • The role is remote based, and travel will be required to external client and internal Medtronic meetings within the UK&I, and occasionally EMEA region.

  • Gastrointestinal experience
    Direct contact with clinicians including physicians/nurses in a hospital setting
  • Knowledge of medical devices and their place in clinical pathways 
  • Project Management Experience
